Sustainability is not a marketing campaign; it is a philosophy of responsible management and long-term efficiency. Guided by this principle, Centro Plaza took part on 1st October in the gathering organised by Nexo Sostenible, held at the Barceló Hotel in Puerto Banús.

What is Nexo Sostenible?

Nexo Sostenible is an initiative and meeting platform designed to connect key players across the hospitality, commercial, and business sectors with suppliers of efficient solutions. Its core objective is not commercial sales, but rather creating a practical space for exchanging value—sharing real operational challenges, reducing environmental impact, and implementing technologies that deliver measurable results and cost savings.

A forum for exchanging real value in Marbella

The event brought together executives from leading brands such as Occidental Puerto Banús, Soho Hoteles, The Flag, and The Boho Club, alongside specialised technology providers.

During his presentation, Carlos García, General Manager of Centro Plaza, highlighted how an iconic building with 36 years of history in Nueva Andalucía can become a benchmark for efficiency without being mandated by regulation.

‘For us, sustainability is not an extra chore, but a way of caring for our community and guaranteeing the long-term efficiency of our facilities,’ he emphasised during the session.

The 4 Pillars of Concrete Action at Centro Plaza

The presentation outlined the key advances in environmental management and digitalisation that position the centre as the area’s sustainable meeting point:

  1. Circular Economy and Local Suppliers (Km 0): Reusing and cataloguing office furniture for incoming tenants or local charities through the Local Town Hall Office (Tenencia de Alcaldía). Furthermore, 90% of suppliers are local SMEs and self-employed professionals.
  2. Digitalisation and ‘Zero Paper’: Implementation of a document manager and digital signature workflow, achieving a 95% reduction in paper use for contracts and internal communications.
  3. Smart Water Management: Installation of an optimised smart irrigation system that has cut water consumption by 30%, alongside flow-rate regulators across public washrooms.
  4. Energy Transition and Open Architecture: Completion of a 100% LED lighting upgrade scheduled ahead of 2027, taking full advantage of an open architectural design that requires no artificial air conditioning in public walkways and plazas.

Innovation and Commitment to the Local Community

Centro Plaza’s daily challenge is to continue modernising its infrastructure within realistic budgets, proving that the ecological transition is both viable and profitable for the Costa del Sol’s business community.
